Wrexham AFC är en walesisk professionell fotbollsklubb i Wrexham, grundad 1864. Hemmamatcherna spelas på Racecourse Ground. Smeknamnet är The Red Dragons eller The Robins.

Historia

Wrexham AFC grundades under ett möte på Turf Hotel den 28 september 1864 av medlemmar i Wrexham Cricket Club. Klubben är därmed den tredje äldsta professionella fotbollsklubben i världen.^[2]

Säsongen 1877/78 startade Football Association of Wales (FAW) Welsh Cup och Wrexham vann finalen mot Druids med 1–0. Pokalen fick man året därpå på grund av FAW:s dåliga ekonomi. Man har vunnit cupen 23 gånger, vilket är rekord, och varit i final ytterligare 22 gånger.

Klubben spelade i The Football League från 1921 fram till 2008, då man flyttades ned till Conference National. Under alla år i ligan vann klubben sin division en gång – säsongen 1977/78 vann man Third Division.

På hösten 2020 tog de två nordamerikanska skådespelarna Ryan Reynolds och Rob McElhenney, via sitt gemensamma företag RR McReynolds Company LLC, över ägandeskapet i klubben. Affären fick 98.6% röster från de 2000 medlemmar som utgör tidigare ägarna Wrexham Supporters Trust.^[3]^[4] I och med övertagandet producerades en dokumentär under namnet Welcome to Wrexham^[5]. Lite oväntat blev också klubben inkluderad i tv-spelet FIFA 22 under sektionen Övriga världen, som första klubb utanför det professionella ligasystemet i Storbritannien.^[6] I början av 2021, kort efter ägarbytet, utsågs skådespelaren Humphrey Ker till ny VD för klubben.^[7]^[8]
