United States Naval Academy
United States Naval Academy med förkortningen USNA (också känt som Annapolis eller i idrottsliga sammanhang som Navy) är USA:s marindepartements service academy som är belägen i staden Annapolis, som ligger mellan Baltimore och Washington, D.C. i delstaten Maryland.
Kadetterna genomgår ett fyraårigt program, med lön och utan studielån, som leder till en bachelorexamen och officersfullmakt i utbyte mot flerårig tjänstgöring i USA:s väpnade styrkor, vanligen i USA:s flotta eller USA:s marinkår.[1]
Bakgrund
United States Naval Academy grundades den 10 oktober 1845 av USA:s marinminister George Bancroft, som en motsvarighet till arméns United States Military Academy i West Point. Sedan grundandet har det funnits en rivalitet mellan de båda officershögskolorna som tar sig uttryck i det årliga Army–Navy Game i amerikansk fotboll.

U.S. Navy midshipman are divided internally into 10 ranks. The first rank, Midshipman 4th Class, abbreviated MIDN 4/C, wears on the shoulder the insignia of a fouled anchor, no stripes on the coat sleeve, and no collar insignia. Midshipman 3rd Class, abbreviated MIDN 3/C, wears on the shoulder the insignia of a fouled anchor with one diagonal stripe, on the sleeve, a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) midshipman wears a horizontal gold stripe midway between the wrist and shoulder on the left sleeve, and a United States Naval Academy (USNA) midshipman wears a single diagonal stripe on the left sleeve, with a fouled anchor pin on the right collar.
