USA:s flygvapendepartement (United States Department of the Air Force, förkortat DAF) är ett av de tre militärdepartementen inom USA:s försvarsdepartement. Flygvapendepartementet bildades den 18 september 1947, enligt samma års nationella säkerhetsakt och i det ingår organisatoriskt alla förband och enheter i USA:s flygvapen (USAF) och USA:s rymdstyrka (USSF).

Ledning och organisation

Flygvapendepartementet leds av flygvapenministern, en civilperson som utnämns av USA:s president med senatens råd och samtycke. Flygvapenministern är underställd försvarsministern som har både det administrativa och operativa ansvaret för USA:s väpnade styrkor (bortsett från kustbevakningen som ingår i inrikessäkerhetsdepartementet).

Flygvapenministern biträds yrkesmilitärt av USA:s flygvapenstabschef samt chefen för rymdstyrkan, som båda även representerar sitt vapenslag i Joint Chiefs of Staff. Ledningen för flygvapendepartementet finns i Pentagon i Arlington, Virginia.

För budgetåret 2019 hade flygvapendepartementet en budget på 156,3 miljarder US Dollar.[1]

The official flag of the Space Force is derived from key and central elements of the Seal of the United States Space Force presented on a black field fringed in platinum with the words United States Space Force and Roman numerals MMXIX (2019) below the imagery. The heraldry of the seal elements follows: “Dark blue and white combine to represent the vast recesses of outer space. The Delta Wing evokes historic ties to the earliest days of the U.S. Air Force space community, and symbolizes change and innovation. It also represents all variations of space vehicles that support our National Defense Strategy and National Security Space Strategy. Dark and light shades of grey within the delta embody the 24/7 operations of the Space Force, while the placement and upward orientation of the delta reveals the central role of the Space Force in defending the space domain. The Globe represents the terrestrial home of the U.S. Space Force and it’s support to the joint warfighters. The Elliptical Orbit [around the globe] signifies defense and protection from all adversaries and threats emanating from the space domain.
