Enligt Catalogue of Life[1] ingår Trapelia i familjen Trapeliaceae, ordningen Baeomycetales, klassen Lecanoromycetes, divisionen sporsäcksvampar och riket svampar,[1] men enligt Dyntaxa[2] är tillhörigheten istället familjen Agyriaceae, ordningen Agyriales, klassen Lecanoromycetes, divisionen sporsäcksvampar och riket svampar.[2]

This herbariuim specimen of Trapelia involuta was growing on a small, flat, sandstone rock along the trail up Black Mountain, just S of Tunk Lake, NE of Ellsworth in Hancock County, Maine, USA (Lat. 44o35' N,   Long. 68o06' W,   elevation 200 meters).
