Spintria

Spintria, pluralis: spintriae, var i antikens Rom en liten pollett i brons eller mässing. Spintriae användes förmodligen på bordeller; på framsidan ses ett erotiskt motiv, medan baksidan har en romersk siffra från I till XVI.

19th century engraving of "Spintriae" purportedly found in Pompeii.
The images of the tokens above are very similar to images that are in a book titled: "Die Erotik der Antike in Kleinkunst und Keramik". This title translated into english is "The eroticism of antiquity in small art and ceramics".[1]The book was by Gaston Vorberg.[1] The images above are very similar to the edition that was published in 1921.[1]
In 1966 a new version of this book was published.
An idea that could be speculated is that the images of the tokens above are possibly from the 1966 edition.
The book was a portfolio that included 113 plates. Each plate was an image of an object. Each object had been found in a museum or private collection. These objects were from ancient Rome and ancient Greece.[1] Some of the objects were Etruscan.[1]
Some of the objects had photos taken of them. Other objects had water colour paintings made of them.[1]
A description of all these tokens is given in the edition published in 1921. The descriptions given in this book are as follows:
1. From the top row the two tokens on the left. An image of the reverse side of these tokens is not shown.
"Bronze coin Naxos Date: 6th century"
2. From the top row the single token on the far right. An image of the reverse side of this token is not shown.
"Priapic coin, Roman brothel token Found in Rome"
3. The block of 18 tokens in the middle. This block is 3 tokens high and 6 in width.
"Roman Brothel token. Found in Rome. Russian Private collection"
4. From the bottom row, the two tokens on the left. An image of the reverse side of these tokens is not shown.
