Serenoa repens[1] är en enhjärtbladig växtart som först beskrevs av William Bartram, och fick sitt nu gällande namn av John Kunkel Small. Serenoa repens ingår i släktet Serenoa och familjen Arecaceae.[2][3] Inga underarter finns listade i Catalogue of Life.[2]

Honey bees help pollinate the venerable Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) and then later enjoy the nutritious oils on the mature fruit! The out of focus little fellow is Waggles the fruit fly :) Here is a short video (same camera) that shows their frenzied joy for the fruit:
