An adult female sooty mangabey (Cercocebus atys) consuming a Sacoglottis gabonensis seed recovered from a swampy area in the Ivory Coast's Taï Forest. These seeds are the hardest items in the sooty mangabey diet and are also the most frequently consumed food item of all group members (with the exception of dependent young). Oral processing activities include incision and powerful, isometric bites both of which are readily apparent in this video. (MPEG)
