Rhizocarpon grande är en lavart[1] som först beskrevs av Flörke, och fick sitt nu gällande namn av Johann Franz Xaver Arnold. Rhizocarpon grande ingår i släktet Rhizocarpon och familjen Rhizocarpaceae.[2][3] Arten är reproducerande i Sverige.[4] Inga underarter finns listade i Catalogue of Life.[2]

This herbarium specimen of R. grande was growing on sandstone rock along the trail up Black Mountain, just S of Tunk Lake, NE of Ellsworth, in Hancock County, Maine, USA (44o35' N,   68o06' W,   elevation 200 meters).
