Rhizocarpon concentricum (Davies) Beltr., 1858 (photograph of a herbarium specimen) Growing on sandstone in exposed area along Muddy Creek at Swallow Falls State Forest, Garrett County, Maryland, USA; collected and identifed by A. Norden and B. Norden (No. LH-250, 24 Jun 1974); specimen is now in the Lichen Herbarium of the New York Botanical Garden. [Porpidia crustulata also has concentrically arranged apothecia; however, P. crustulata has large colorless 1-celled spores, while Rhizocarpon concentricum has large colorless muriform spores.]
