Pyraloidea är en överfamilj av fjärilar som beskrevs av Pierre André Latreille, 1809.[1][2] Pyraloidea ingår i ordningen fjärilar, Lepidoptera, klassen egentliga insekter, Insecta, fylumet leddjur. Arthropoda och riket djur, Animalia.[1][2] Enligt Catalogue of Life omfattar överfamiljen Pyraloidea 15 611 arter[1].

Light rain in the evening, followed by a mild but slightly breezy evening. The predicted heavier rain did not start until 7am so I was lucky in that the catch wasn't sopping wet. A nice return aswell with two new Underwing species and the star of the catch, the uncommon Pyralid Donacaula mucronellus. This is a first record for my garden and my second record ever (the previous was from my Essex cottage garden in Hatfield Broad Oak) Strangely that both records are from less than ideal habitats for this moth.

A trip down to Dungeness in Kent on Saturday night proved to be the coolest conditions we have experienced for a while, with clear skies, bright moon and misty air coming from the sea. As you can imagine it wasn't great and the moths were few and far between, but I did manage a few new ones for me. Yellow Belle, Pale Grass Eggar, Antler Moth, Celypha cespitana, Aroga velocella and Cynaeda dentalis were all new for me. There are still some Bactra's to confirm and a few unidentified micros to sort out.

All in all despite the catastrophic weather I was pleased to pick up some new ones.
