Ponta do Pico är en vulkan och den högsta punkten på ön Pico i Azorerna. Toppen ligger 2 351 meter över havet och är därför den högsta punkten i Portugal[1] och även i den mittatlantiska ryggen. Högst uppe på berget smälter aldrig isen.

The nine stars represent the nine islands which are: São Miguel, São Jorge, Terceira, Santa Maria, Graciosa, Faial, Pico, Flores, and Corvo.
The bird represent the goshawk which the word Azores derived from.
The shield represents the lesser arm of Portugal, of which the Azores is an autonomous region.
