Paralympiska sommarspelen 2016 anordnades i Rio de Janeiro, Brasilien 7–18 september 2016. Det beslutades i samband med att staden den 2 oktober 2009 tilldelades olympiska sommarspelen, eftersom paralympiska spelen sedan 1992 anordnas på samma ort som olympiska spelen men några veckor senare.
Under den näst sista tävlingsdagen skakades spelen av ett dödsfall då iranske cyklisten Bahman Golbarnezhad omkom efter en krasch i herrarnas linjelopp.[2] Kina vann medaljligan med 107 guld och totalt 239 medaljer.[3]

Öppningsceremonin för de paralympiska sommarspelen 2016 ägde rum på Maracanãstadion den 7 september kl. 18:30 lokal tid.

22 sporter med totalt 528 medaljgrenar avverkades i spelen. Nya sporter för årets tävlingar var kanot och triathlon. Antal grenar inom respektive sport anges inom parentes.

The tricolor flag was introduced in 1906, but after the Islamic Revolution of 1979 the Arabic words 'Allahu akbar' ('God is great'), written in the Kufic script of the Qur'an and repeated 22 times, were added to the red and green strips where they border the white central strip and in the middle is the emblem of Iran (which is a stylized Persian alphabet of the Arabic word Allah ("God")).
The official ISIRI standard (translation at FotW) gives two slightly different methods of construction for the flag: a compass-and-straightedge construction used for File:Flag of Iran (official).svg, and a "simplified" construction sheet with rational numbers used for this file.
