Nya Hebriderna är en ögrupp som var ett brittisk-franskt kondominatområde i Stilla havet. Det fanns åren 1906-1980, efter att både Storbritannien och Frankrike visat intresse sedan James Cook besökt öarna under 1700-talet.[1] Med kondominatet delades öarna upp i två kulturer, en engelskspråkig och en franskspråkig. När kondominatet upphörde skapades i stället Republiken Vanuatu.
Området består huvudsakligen av vulkaniska öar omgivna av korallrev.
Politik och ekonomi
Styrelseformen, med två stormakter som delade makten, var unikt för den koloniala världen. Tre separata statsförvaltningar fanns, en brittisk, en fransk och från 1975 valdes även en gemensam. Det fanns två rättssystem, även om polisstyrkan officiellt var gemensam.
Det gemensamma styret, som bestod av både lokalbefolkning och europeiska statstjänstemän, hade bland annat hand om posten, allmänradion, infrastrukturen och folkräkningar.

- a red square 1/3 in height/width of the flag's height,
- a blue square on top of the red square and 8/30 in height/width of the flag's height,
- a white square behind the red square and 12/30 in height/width of the flag's height,
- radius of the five-pointed stars are 1/6 of the flag's height,
- all five blue five-pointed stars have been arranged on top of each other on a vertical line, aligned vertically to the right 1/6 of the flag's width and aligned horizontally with a distance of 1/6 of the flag's height.

Imhaus (1890), Les Nouvelles-Hébrides: avec une carte et sept gravures, p 160: "mi partie blanc et rouge, en disposition verticale, comme le drapeau H du Code de commerce, avec un carré bleu au centre, débordant sur le blanc et le rouge et cinq étoiles dans le bleu."
