NGC 2359 (även känd som Sh2-298) är en emissionsnebulosa[3] i stjärnbilden Stora hunden. Nebulosan befinner sig på ett avstånd på ungefär 15,000 ljusår från Jorden. Dess storlek är ungefär 30 ljusår. Dess centrala stjärna är Wolf-Rayet-stjärnan HD 56925, en extremt het jätte som tros vara i ett kort presupernovaskede av sin evolution. I likhet med NGC 7635 tros interaktion med ett näraliggande molekylmoln ha bidragit till den komplexa formen av NGC 2359.
Nebulosan upptäcktes den 31 januari 1785 av William Herschel.

This VLT image of the Thor’s Helmet Nebula was taken on the occasion of ESO’s 50th Anniversary, 5 October 2012, with the help of Brigitte Bailleul — winner of the Tweet Your Way to the VLT! competition. The observations were broadcast live over the internet from the Paranal Observatory in Chile. This object, also known as NGC 2359, lies in the constellation of Canis Major (The Great Dog). The helmet-shaped nebula is around 15 000 light-years away from Earth and is over 30 light-years across.
