Kvalspelet till världsmästerskapet i fotboll 1954 spelades 1953–1954 och innehöll 45 lag, som skulle minskas till 16 inför huvudturneringen i Schweiz, dit Schweiz, som värdar 1954, och Uruguay, som slutsegrare i 1950 års turnering var direktkvalificerade.
Fifa avslog ansökningar från Island, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Kuba, Indien och Sydvietnam om att få delta. Kvarstående 37 lag delades in i 13 geografiskt indelade grupper.
- Grupp 1–10 - Europa: 11 platser, 27 lag deltog (inklusive Egypten och Israel).
- Grupp 11 - Sydamerika: 1 plats, 4 lag deltog.
- Grupp 12 - Nordamerika, Centralamerika och Karibien: 1 plats, 3 lag deltog.
- Grupp 13 - Asien: 1 plats, 3 lag deltog.
33 lag spelade minst en kvalmatch. Totalt spelades 57 kvalmatcher, och 208 mål gjordes (ett genomsnitt på 3,65 per match).

Båda lagen slutade på samma poäng och ett omspel arrangerades därför på neutral plan.

Omspelsmatchen slutade oavgjort efter förlängning och därför anordnades en lottdragning som Turkiet vann.
