John Quincy Adams Ward

John Quincy Adams Ward, född den 29 juni 1830 i Urbana i Ohio, död den 1 maj 1910 i New York, var en amerikansk skulptör. Han var bror till Edgar Melville Ward.

Ward studerade först medicin och skaffade sig anatomiska insikter. Han slog sig sedan på bildhuggarkonsten, var 1850–1856 lärjunge till Henry K. Brown och öppnade 1861 egen ateljé i New York, där han 1863 blev ledamot och 1874 preses i konstakademien.

The statue of General George Henry Thomas, a prominent commander during the American Civil War, located in the center of Thomas Circle, a traffic circle in the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It is a contributing property to the Fourteenth Street Historic District.


The bronze equestrian statue was sculpted by John Quincy Adams Ward, and dedicated on November 19, 1879. It is one of seventeen Civil War monuments in Washington, D.C., that were collectively listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 20, 1978. The statuary was also designated a D.C. Historic Landmark on March 3, 1979.
