Hongkongs Internationella flygplats (香港国际机场; 香港國際機場; Xiānggǎng guójìjīchǎng) invigdes 1998 och är Hongkongs internationella flygplats. Flygplatsen är även känd under namnet Chek Lap Koks flygplats då den är byggd på den delvis konstgjorda ön Chek Lap Kok.
Hongkongs Internationella flygplats har två terminaler (T1 och T2) som upptar totalt 710 000 m², och hela flygplatsområdet upptar 1 255 hektar.[1] Hongkongs Internationella flygplats trafikeras av mer än 100 olika flygbolag till drygt 190 destinationer. 2015 var passagerantalet 68,5 miljoner.[1] Linje Airport Express (AEL) i Hongkongs tunnelbana trafikerar flygplatsen.
Historia
Hongkongs tidigare flygplats, Kai Tak Airport låg nästan mitt i staden, men med tanke på flygtrafikökning, buller och den farliga inflygningen behövdes en ny flygplats. 1989 offentliggjordes planen på att den nya flygplatsen skulle byggas. Den nya flygplatsen placerades två mil utanför staden på den konstgjorda ön som började uppföras 1993.[2] Öppningsceremonin hölls 21 juni 1998 och den 6 juli landade och avgick de första flygplanen från Hongkongs Internationella flygplats.[2]

Hong Kong International Airport is the principal airport in Hong Kong. It is colloquially known as Chek Lap Kok Airport, due to the fact that it was built on the island of Chek Lap Kok by land reclamation. It opened for commercial operations in 1998, and is an important regional trans-shipment centre, passenger hub and gateway for destinations in China, East Asia and Southeast Asia. Despite its relatively short history, the airport has won several notable international "Best Airport" awards, although it lost out to Singapore Changi Airport in the Skytrax "Best airport" award in 2006, having won it from 2001-2005. It is currently given a rating of five stars by Skytrax's airport grading exercise along with two other airports. The airport operates around-the-clock and is capable of handling 45 million passengers and three million tonnes of cargo a year. It is the primary hub for Cathay Pacific and Dragonair, along with several other smaller airlines, including Hong Kong Express Airways, Hong Kong Airlines, Oasis Hong Kong Airlines and Air Hong Kong.
