Jaktstart var med för första gången vid olympiska vinterspelen 1992. Tävlingen var uppdelad i två lopp under två dagar. Först hölls ett lopp i klassisk stil på 10 km den 13 februari. Den 15 februari hölls en jaktstart, då de tävlande från det klassiska loppet startade i den ordning de gått i mål. Det andra loppet var 15 km fristil och resultaten från det loppet var även hela tävlingens slutresultat.
