Fotbollsturneringen vid Olympiska sommarspelen 2008, spelades mellan den 6 augusti och 23 augusti 2008. Matcherna började alltså spelas två dagar före OS-invigningen.
I damturneringen spelade de ordinarie a-landslagen. Men i herrturneringen var det U23-landslagen som spelade. Varje lag hade dispens på att ha 3 överåriga spelare i truppen. Varför inte herrarna deltar med a-landslagen beror bland annat på att OS går samma år som EM-slutspelet.
