FA Community Shield är en årlig välgörenhetsmatch i den engelska herrfotbollen som spelas mellan föregående säsongs vinnare av Premier League och av FA-cupen. Men om samma lag som vinner ligan även vinner cupen, står istället laget som kom tvåa i Premier League för motståndet. Denna match är accepterad som en tävlingsinriktad Supercup av både engelska fotbollsförbundet och Uefa.[1][2][3][4]. Tidigare kallades matchen för FA Charity Shield; namnbytet kom till 2002.

Idag är matchen en av höjdpunkterna under det engelska fotbollsåret. Matchen TV-sänds och får därmed en miljardpublik världen över. När matchen arrangerades på Wembley 1974–2000 drog matcherna in mer än 5 miljoner pund till olika välgörande ändamål, som de deltagande lagen utsåg.

De nuvarande titelhållarna (2023) är Arsenal, som besegrade Manchester City med 4-1 efter straffar.

Historia

FA Charity Shield spelades första gången 1908 men det var först 1974 som det engelska fotbollsförbundets dåvarande generalsekreterare, Ted Croker, bestämde att matchen skulle inleda den nya säsongen och att matcherna skulle spelas på Wembley Stadium. Detta höjde statusen på matchen, som innan dess fört en tämligen anonym tillvaro då den spelats på olika arenor och mellan lag som ofta inte hade vunnit någonting.

Från 2001 hade matcherna avgjorts i Cardiff i väntan på att det nya Wembley Stadium skulle invigas, och då detta skedde 2007 började man återigen spela matcherna på Wembley.
