Europeiska spelen 2015 var den första upplagan av de europeiska spelen och arrangerades i Baku, Azerbajdzjan mellan 12 juni och 28 juni. Spelen var ett multisportevenemang där idrottarna representerade de Nationella olympiska kommittéerna i europa. Runt 6 000 idrottare från 50 nationer tävlade i 20 sporter under spelen.[1][2]
Val av värdstad
Den 8 december 2012, under Europeiska Olympiska Kommitténs (EOC) stormöte i Rom, bestämdes det att de första europeiska spelen skulle anordnas. Det beslutades att spelen skulle fungera som de olympiska spelen men endast öppet för europeiska länder. I församlingen deltog samtliga 49 nationella olympiska kommittéer. Azerbajdzjans huvudstad Baku utsågs samtidigt som värdstad för de första spelen. Beslutet fattades till följd av en hemlig omröstning. Av de 48 röstande röstade 38 för och åtta emot, samtidigt som två avstod från att rösta. Armeniens representanter vägrade att delta i omröstningen. [3]
Arenor
Bakus nya Olympiastadion med plats för 68 195 åskådare var huvudarena för spelen. Utöver ceremonierna utövades friidrott på arenan. Arenan börjades bygga 2011 och blev klar under våren 2015.[4]

Deltagande nationer
Cirka 6 000 idrottare från 50 europeiska deltog i premiärupplagan av spelen. Idrottarna var utvalda av sin respektive nationella olympiska kommitté, i Sveriges fall SOK. Ryssland hade störst trupp med 359 idrottare. [5]
Sporter
Spelen innehöll 20 sporter. 16 olympiska sporter, två olympiska sporter men där man inte tävlade i olympiskt format (fotboll och basket) samt två icke olympiska sporter.[6] I flera av sporterna kunde deltagarna kvalificera sig för Olympiska sommarspelen 2016.
