Cyrilla racemiflora[1] är en tvåhjärtbladig växtart som beskrevs av Carl von Linné. Cyrilla racemiflora ingår i släktet Cyrilla och familjen Cyrillaceae.[2][3] Inga underarter finns listade i Catalogue of Life.[2]

Not often seen in the Uk, this small tree was photographed in East Sussex. The species apparently has a wide distribution in the wild - from southern states of the USA, through Central America and the Caribbean into South America. This one suffered no damage at all last winter. It's closest relatives are the Clethras which DNA analysis has shown to belong in the Ericaceae. There's another interesting American small tree/large shrub in the Clethra/Cyrilla group called Cliftonia monophylla which I can find no mention of in cultivation in the UK but which looks interesting.
