Photograph of the fairly large primary squamules of C. apodocarpa showing the pure white lower surface.   One squamule, in the center of the picture, contains several small brown apothecia growing on the lower surface of a squamule. (See inset for enlarged squamule)

The Cladonia apodocarpa was growing on soil along the road under the High Voltage Power Lines down hill from Red Dog Lodge at Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area, Baltimore County, Maryland, USA (N 39o24.577',   W 76o50.517').
