Map of the divisions of Bangladesh as they were between circa 1993 and circa 1998. In 1993, Barisal was split from Khulna; in 1998, Sylhet was split from Chittagong, giving the divisons we have today.

Map of the divisions of Bangladesh as they were from 1971 to 1993. On December 15 1971, Bangladesh achieved independence from Pakistan with these four divisions. Sometime around 1993, Barisal was split from Khulna. Also note that sometime around 1983, the name of Dacca division officially changed to Dhaka. Please let me know if this is incorrect; I'm extrapolating that this is what it was like on independence, but that may well be inaccurate. I don't think so, but it could.
