Na afloop van "Dwars door België" 1988 bedankt Planckaert Fons De Wolf, die zijn rol als ploegmaat perfect vervulde. Een half jaar later krijgt Eddy te horen dat hij na afloop een positief plasje zou hebben afgeleverd. Bijgevolg wordt hij geschrapt als winnaar en krijgt John Talen de overwinning toegewezen.
