Wreck of Douglas C-47 Dakota (79001) (8320400453)
Underneath the cold war hall is a further display hall containing the wreck of this C-47 Dakota, msn 9001. Originally '42-5694' and later 'SE-APZ', it then became '79001' with the Swedish AF. On 13th June 1952, while on an ELINT mission, it was shot down by Soviet MiG-15 fighters. The surprisingly complete wreck was located in 2003 and recovered in 2004. It went on display in 2010. It is extremely well presented. This view shows the overall wreck, with the port wing inverted in the foreground. The Swedish roundel can still be seen. Flyvapenmuseum, Malmen, Sweden.
