Title: The Three Maries at the Sepulchre Origination: William Blake: inventor, delineator, colorist Composition Date: 1800-03 Note: Although inscribed "1803" by Blake, in a letter to Thomas Butts of Oct. 1800 Blake comments that "I have not got any Forwarder with the three Marys or with any other of your commissions...." (Erdman page 712). Thus, Blake may have begun some work on The Three Maries at the Sepulchre as early as 1800. Butts received the finished work in July or Aug. 1803.
