Surfgrass (Phyllospadix sp.), a marine angiosperm.
Surfgrass is a critical member of the intertidal community providing a nursery habitat for many species of fish and invertebrates. Survival of the seedlings requires algae to enable root establishment. Once disturbed, it is difficult to regrow.
