Beskrivning:
Ennui (2e versuin, Ashmolean, Oxford). Ennui shows Sickert’s interpretation of the boredom of married life, and is the last of his five paintings on the subject. The first, exhibited in 1914 (Tate Britain) was painted at 15 Fitzroy Square, London, W1, but was inspired by “a decayed first floor” on the corner of Granby Street and Mornington Square. Hubby, the model, was an old school friend of Sichert’s who had fallen on hard times and he kept in beer.
