Bird expert and author Brad Schram, trip leader, says "Actually Mike, I believe this bird is a Short-tailed Shearwater. First, the small bill and steeply angled forehead; second, the pale throat contrasting with the body color; third, the feet seem to extend beyond the tail just fine for either probably; the lack of molt--all the Sooties we saw were molting (this latter is only indicative, not diagnostic). Now--if the wing lining brightness is accurate, your bird is indeed a Sooty--but I think it's a product of Photoshop contrast enhancement. My Short-tail photos have an identical underwing pattern with this bird--just soft gray instead of this bright." Thanks Brad!Mer information om licensen för bilden finns här.
