Photograph of 1-septate spores from an apothecium of Rhizocarpon hochstetteri taken through a compound microscope, x1000. Spores measure ca. 18 x 9 microns.
Rhizocarpon hochstetteri was growing on a stone about 500 feet S of Cabin No. 1. at the Humboldt Field Research Institute on Eagle Hill at Steuben in Washington County, Maine, USA (Lat. 44o27.5' N, Long. 67o55.5' W).
Collected and identified by E.C. Uebel (No. U-137, 9 Jun 2001).
