Photograph of a sliced verrucule, treated with IKI (Lugol's solution), taken through a dissecting microscope (x40) showing the medulla staining dark blue with Lugol's solution.
This herbarium specimen of R. grande was growing on sandstone rock along the trail up Black Mountain, just S of Tunk Lake, NE of Ellsworth, in Hancock County, Maine, USA (44o35' N, 68o06' W, elevation 200 meters).
Collected and identified by E.C. Uebel (No. U-526, 11 Jul 2005).
