Lophognathus gilberti 1
Gilbert's Dragon (Amphibolurus gilberti)

A little Gilbert's Dragon which spotted us in the Kalbarri Gorge.
Although all evidence I have found indicates that these lizards do not occur this far south in Western Australia, I'm pretty sure it's not a Long-Nosed Dragon (Lophognathus longirostri) which is commonly found in the Kalbarri region, as its head shape is distinctly different and it has dark spots on its torso above its longitudinal stripe.
This lizard was tiny but certainly not afraid of humans; it actually stalked and caught four flies which were buzzing around our feet. It even jumped onto my camera and bounced off my sunglasses as it was hunting its lunch!
On another note, this shot was taken with Jae's 70-200 f2.8. Other than RAW conversion, sharpening and slight curves adjustment, the image is unaltered. I have no idea why the in-focus area begins so suddenly towards the 'front' of the image!Mer information om licensen för bilden finns här. Senaste uppdateringen: Sun, 01 Sep 2024 07:23:50 GMT
