Mentha gracilis, var. genuina. Slender Mint. LABIALS. 17 the stem and veins of the leaves are generally tinged with purple; thewhole plant is more glabrous; the pedicels, base of the calyx, andcorolla usually perfectly so, though there are sometimes a few hairsabout the top of the pedicel, and occasionally a few on the expandm<Tcorolla. Mr. Baker states that Mr. T. B. Flower has sent from Gloucester-shire a plant bearing the same relation to the ordinai-y form that thevar. paludosa does to the normal M. sativa. Mr. Baker refers to M. rubra, a plant collected by Dr. Windsor, atPartington, Cheshire. This has the veins of the leaves, bracteoles, and calyx teeth densely clothed with white woolly hairs. I have notseen the corolla of this plant, so I do not kno\v if it does not alsopartake of the increased hairiness. It appears to me to be M. gentilis, var y. Tall Red Mint. French, MeniJie rougo. SPECIES XL—M E N T H A GRACILIS. Sm. Plates MXXXIV. IIXXXV. M. Cardiaca, Baker, Joum. Bot. 1
