Cordierite
- Locality: Yamanashi Prefecture, Chubu Region, Honshu Island, Japan
- Size: 2.3 cm x 1.9 cm x 0.6 cm
- An extremely rare, old, sharp, floater cordierite crystal from a very obscure locale in Japan - Doshi. This pristine, textbook, prismatic, orthorhombic thumbnail crystal is lustrous and translucent and is beautifully bi-colored, with an indigo-blue core and a honey-brown rim. The Columbia University label dates to prior to 1868, the end of the Edo period in Japan. Doshi was a village in Kai Province until that date and was later created within the Yamanashi Prefecture. A striking, beautiful and perhaps unique Japanese cordierite with a fine provenance.
