Butterlope Glen. Butterlope Glen like the nearby Barnes gap and Gortin Glen is a glacial spillway cut away by the meltwaters of a large post-glacial lake. The action of the water has here exposed grteenish-coloured shiste, quartzites and limestone, some of the olders geological elements of the Sperrins and Foyle area.
