Belmont Literary & Historical Society Free Library, 2 Willets Avenue at Park Place, Belmont, New York, September 2012. A charming edifice with a freewheeling eclectic design that owes more to the odd shape of the lot it's built on than any particular aesthetic, the most notable architectural feature you see on the library is the imposing corner clock tower which brings into play a Romanesque Revival influence with its round-arched entrance, layers of corbelling above the second floor and timepiece (installed in 1908 and still in good working order, hand-wound daily), and stout pyramidal roof with its gabled dormers. The façades proper are simpler in design and defy stylistic categorization. The library was founded in 1885 with a collection of 40 volumes, but thanks to its main financial benefactor, Mary Chamberlin Ward, its collection grew in short order and this building was constructed to house it. The cornerstone was laid in 1893, and the structure was completed in 1904.

This is an image of a place or building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States of America. Its reference number is 3000599.
