.Illustration of en:anamorphic widescreen lens. With an anamorphic lens, the picture is optically "squeezed" to cover the entire film frame, resulting in a better picture quality. When projecting the film, the projector must use a lens of opposite anamorphic power to "unsqueeze" the image back to its original proportions.
