Shabam is an archaeological town and the center of the Directorate of Shabam in Hadramout Governorate in East Yemen. The 16th-century walled city is one of the oldest and best models of precise civil organization based on the principle of vertical construction. It is called "Desert Manhattan" due to its towering tower buildings emanating from mud, with a population of 16,094 according to the 2004 census.
