Cyphelium inquinans (Sm.) Trevis., 1862 [Syn. Cyphelium tympanellum (Ach.) Ach., 1815] (photograph of a herbarium specimen taken through a dissecting microscope (x40) showing the yellowish gray thallus and prominent black apothecia) This specimen was in Dr. Elmer George Worthley's private lichen herbarium collection; the label on the packet is as follows:"Lichenes Scandinavici/ ex herb. G.A. Ringselle/ Cyphelium tympanellum Ach./ Dalarna. / Hedemora: Sorleo?/ 14 Jul 1901/ Leg. G.A. Ringselle." (Assigned No. L-649, 1901); specimen is now in the Lichen Herbarium of the New York Botanical Garden.
